Golden Slipper Stakes
The Golden Slipper Stakes were established in 1957 and is currently recognised as Australia's premier prize for juvenile racehorses. The Group 1 event is scheduled for April each year and is run over 1200 metres at Rosehill Racecourse which is sited approximately 23 km west of central Sydney. The course at Rosehill is prepared turf with an overall circumference of 2048 metres. The race starts in a chute necessitating the frequently chaotic dash towards a sweeping turn beyond which the finishing straight is approximately 408 metres in length. Horses travel the righthanded track in clockwise direction and extreme outside barriers can be a competitive disadvantage. Entry is determined through official ballot and historic lead up events are the Reisling Slipper Trial and Magic Night Stakes both run under set weight conditions and the Todman Slipper Trial and Pago Pago Stakes under set weight conditions for colts and geldings. The lead up races are held at Rosehill racecourse over the Slipper distance of 1200m.
