Phoenix Stakes

The Phoenix Stakes were established in 1907 and is currently recognised as Ireland's premier prize for juvenile racehorses. The Group 1 turf event is scheduled for August each year and is run over the six furlong (1200m) straight course at the Curragh Racecourse in County Kildare. The race is held under set weight conditions of 9st 1lb with 3lb allowance for fillies. While the sprint course is considered fair, there is potential for a bias favouring either inside or outside barrier positions. In such situations this will usually be reflected in betting markets on the day of the race.
